Strange Beauty
Collages by Katie McCann
November 2 – November 29, 2020
Artists often look at the world with a uniquely creative eye. Katie McCann looks at her world and sees a strange and beautiful world beyond it; a world populated with fantastic creatures and beguiling nature. Orderly, precise, and colorful, Katie’s collages, born out of her curiosity cabinet of paper cuttings, create new taxonomies of unseen animals, insects, people, and plants.
We’re thrilled to welcome Katie McCann to our office gallery (physical and virtual). Please explore her work below and learn more by watching the videos and visiting Katie’s website, Instagram, and Etsy Store. Once you dive into her work, you may find yourself wondering “are faeries real?”
Please note: Because of the current COVID-19 health crisis, our physical office gallery is not open to the public.

More About Katie McCann
Katie McCann creates hand-cut collages of strange creatures and plants that are part science fiction and part faerie story.
With just a pair of scissors, she creates intricate works of art that reflect her Victorian obsession with faeries, flora, and fauna. From her collection of books, prints, and pages that are antique, forgotten, and foxed with age, she cuts out images, categorizes them, and eventually pieces them together like a complex paper jigsaw. Her collages are places where beauty is strange, creatures are curious, and a sense of wonder prevails.
Katie McCann is an English collage artist currently living and working in Berkeley, California. Her work has been exhibited across the USA and in Europe.
