2020 Community Engagement Report

In 2020, our community engagement had to adapt to changes brought on by the coronavirus pandemic. Our regular landscape of giving shifted to address our community’s changing needs. As a firm, we also evaluated our areas of giving and identified areas where we can support social justice and equality. Our 2020 Community Engagement Report reflects an adaptation to dramatic circumstances and a desire to evolve as a firm.

Inside the Report

Engagement Stories
In our 2020 report, we featured two community engagement stories. In Engaging with Social Justice, our team examines the issues of justice, equality, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) in our community, our industry, and our workplace. We asked ourselves, how do we engage more productively in issues of racial justice?

We also explored the expanding role of our community partner, Berkeley Food Network. The need for BFN’s services increased dramatically in 2020 and they responded by scaling up their operations to provide food to the people who need it.

Community Partners
We partner with select local organizations by providing direct financial support, professional guidance, and staff volunteer time. Our report highlights the impact of our partners in the community.

Sponsorships
Sponsorships provide substantive financial support for nonprofit organizations that make our communities healthy and prosperous.

Community Involvement
We use our time and expertise to support local organizations and to create a positive impact in the community.

Donations
We donated to 38 different organizations in 2020 and launched two giving opportunities for our team, one focused on the effects of the pandemic and the other to encourage engagement around issues of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Business as Community Engagement
This year we introduced a new section to the report to highlight how our business practices foster community engagement. From our nonprofit and impact investing services to our art exhibits, and B Corp certification, we want to demonstrate that business can be a force for good.
